Where Happy Students are Better Learners

Where Happy Students are Better Learners By Jane Uymatiao Here’s to Life! For many years now, whenever I would pass Shaw Blvd (Kapitolyo area), I’d see this building that said Reedley International. It had always piqued my curiosity, with me wondering what kind of school it was. A couple of weeks ago, I got an invite from Carlo to visit Reedley, which by this time had transferred to the Libis area. We were briefed by Jerome T. Castro, Reedley’s Headmaster, and Emil Ong, Director of School Development. Emil is the son of Nellie Aquino-Ong who founded Reedley. Reedley started as a review center giving personalized teaching...

Efren Penaflorida: One is not too poor to help others

Efren Penaflorida: One is not too poor to help others I got invited at Reedley International School to attend a talk featuring 2009 CNN Hero of the Year Efren Penaflorida. The talk was actually directed towards the 1st year high school students of that school, but oldies, the press and bloggers like me were also present to cover and perhaps get some inspiration from Kuya Ef. I’ve heard him talk on TV, and honestly I’ve also saw the same presentation he gave. But, there are people that are simply wired to inspire. Efren is blessed to be one. What Others Say About Reedley?

What Others Say About Reedley? I’m not a parent in Reedley International School. So, what business do I have to be writing in this corner? I was one of the concessionaires at the canteen. The kids love to order chocolate shake and crab nuggets, among others at the KISS cart. During break time, their teachers, making sure they won’t waste food nor get messy, always accompanied the little ones. I was amazed at how quick and confident they are able to count their change using a different kind of Math. I learned that the students are taught Singaporean Math in Reedley. During lunch, students don’t battle for...
