C5 U-Turn Slot Near Reedley Is Now Open!

Friday, October 17th, 2008

Earlier this week, the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has just opened a Southbound U-Turn slot on C-5 Road-Libis, which is approximately 100 meters away from Wilcon Builders Depot.

Students and parents have been requesting that another slot be opened since motorists would have to travel all the way to the only U-Turn slot located at the northern end of Libis. This has increased travel time and caused great stress for Reedley families since Libis gets easily jam-packed, especially during rush hour.

Since July, the school has circulated a petition letter addressed to MMDA Chairman Bayani Fernando for the opening of a U-Turn Slot near Reedley. It was signed by Reedley parents and by establishments along Libis.

However, there has been no official word from the MMDA that the petition letter pushed them to decide to open the U-Turn slot.

Reedley Puts a Premium on Career Preparation

Sunday, October 12th, 2008

Reedley International School Philippines held its Career Options Week last September 22 to 26, 2008. This campaign targeted students’ knowledge of service, experience of careers, and develop plans for their future.

Each year level had its own unique activity: Upper School 1 students underwent Student Service wherein students became student assistants of their teachers (September 26); Upper School 2 students had their Parent Day where they spent a day at the workplace of their parents and experienced the work and activities of their parents (September 24); Upper School 3 students had their College Talks where different colleges were invited to talk about their school, the courses they offer, and how the school would fit the students (September 23); and Upper School 4 students were visited by Reedley International School Alumni and were given  some important tips for college so they would know how to prepare for their college experience in a few month’s time (September 25).

The students learned a lot from the specific activities prepared for their year level for the activities reflect their developmental needs at the time. Moreover, students discovered and practiced the value of service to people especially the rewarding feeling of helping each other, the importance of responsibility in performing assigned tasks, and perseverance in doing what they like doing and what is best to do.

Reedley Days With The Lord Batch 3

Sunday, October 12th, 2008
Reedley International School Days With The Lord Batch 3 was held in Reedley from the evening of October 3, Friday, until the evening of October 5, 2008, Sunday.

During this retreat, we gave the participants the opportunity to realize and appreciate the love and concern of their parents and guardians and of the other members of their family. By the end of the each RIS DWTL weekend, we pray that the students not only be better people, but also better sons and daughters, better brothers and sisters, better friends, better Reesians, and most importantly, better followers of Christ and His ways. In this generation of kids who are not so in touch with and conscious of their faith, these Dazers struggle to be better for Christ and for the people whom they love.

Proudly, we present the members of RIS DWTL 3: Michelle Bocanegra, Carla Celiz, Mariella Rafael, Miguel Roxas, Jose Redentor Salonga, Jirah Sanchez and Melissa Supleo, and their Rectors Niccolo Tanchanco and Kevin Lee.

Reesians get top Honors in Ateneo and La Salle Graduation Rites

Monday, October 6th, 2008

The UAAP Basketball Crown may have been won, but Reesians still never fail to make waves on both sides of rivals green and blue.

Last October 4, 2008, Reedley International School Class Valedictorian of Batch 2005 Katherine Cua, graduated Magna Cum Laude in BS Information Communication Technology Management at the De La Salle University. Looking back, her four years of high school in Reedley have instilled in her the values of time management, communication skills and hardwork in a challenging environment.

Earlier this year, on the blue corner, Reedley International School Class Salutatorian of Batch 2004 Liana Lim graduated Honorable Mention in AB Psychology at the Ateneo De Manila University. Having studied in Reedley since 2001, Liana is truly grateful for learning how to balance and prioritize her academics while pursuing her passions in dancing and ballet. Liana is now a preschool teacher. Congratulations Kathy and Liana!

Any other Reesians out there with noteworthy achievements such as Kathy’s and Liana’s?

Who’re You Gonna Call? JRP!

Sunday, October 5th, 2008

As the pre-college–related pressure intensifies throughout the high school years, Junior year is no exception. Students are always intent on scoring high on their college entrance exams, and the Junior’s Review Program (JRP) aims to give them the confidence and equips them with the proper tools to do so.

This school year’s JRP kicked off last November 16, several months shy of scheduled national (and international) college entrance tests – giving students ample time to prepare for exams given by UP, Ateneo, UA&P, De La Salle and UST in particular. Headed by Mrs. Flor Male, the JRP lessons are supplemented with handouts containing detailed notes for Science, Math, English, IQ and Filipino. Mock-exams accompany every session, effectively enforcing the subjects reviewed in each lesson.

To further highlight the importance of being well-prepared, the results of every practice exam, sans IQ, are included in the seatwork components of students’ grades. So stop twiddling those thumbs! Catch JRP every Friday and be entrance exam-savvy!
